“PHZINC”, the pH analyser for the hydrometallurgical zinc industry.

In the hydrometallurgic zinc industry, the temperatures are high, the solids content is high, the solutions are complex with high ionic strength, pH is in the range of 0.5 to 7 and most processes are precipitation processes.
It is very difficult to measure the pH continuously under such conditions.
There are many types of pH-analysers on the market, including systems with retractable electrodes. The problem is that none of these systems provides the accuracy and stability necessary for effective zinc production.
That is why we have developed pH analysers specifically for the hydrometallurgical zinc industry.

The following properties distinguish our analyser from other known technology:
1. Most reliable, infrequent error with the analyser or the electrodes, very low-maintenance.
2. High short-term and long-term accuracy.
3. Very long life of the electrodes, it is not possible to get high long-term accuracy without long electrode life.
4. Other systems require calibration daily or even several times daily to provide high accuracy. Our analyser gives high accuracy even with weeks’ interval between calibrations.
5. It is fast and easy to calibrate the analyser, there is no sample head which must be dismantled for calibration.
6. It is easy to install the analyser and normally no encroachment in the process equipment is needed.


Other features:
 1. Automatic cleaning of the electrodes by spraying the electrodes from below cleans the sensor surface mechanically and cleaning with chemicals prevents build-up of physical or chemical coating.
2. The analyser is designed for the harsh environment in the zinc plants with high temperatures, acid, dust and gasses. The analyser is designed to tolerate electrical noise and fluctuations in the supply voltage.
3. Easy to operate, logical menu structure, easy-to-use two point calibration procedure with calibration plausibility check. The analyser has a transmitter mode of operation for ISO loop check with traceable buffer solutions
4. The electrode system is designed in such a way that the reference electrode never can be poisoned.
5. The analyser is designed for measuring the pH off solutions with high solid content.
6. The electrodes are in controlled pressure conditions and are protected against mechanical strains.
7. Large two-line LCD display with LED backlight.
8. Measuring range 0-14 pH.
9. Modbus port for data communication, 4-20 mA output and alarm output.

Proven technology
The PHZINC pH analyser is the result of 40 years of experience with design, construction, servicing and sale of pH analysers to zinc plants. The Norzink/Halland pH analysers have been sold to zinc plants world-wide for 40 years. The first model was developed at the Norzink zinc plant in Odda 1971. In the early 1980’s Norzink developed a new model, it was called “SLURpH” this model replaced the first generation and many zinc plants bought this analyser. In 1998 Norzink decided to focus on core business, zinc production, and the instrument business was handed over to Halland Instruments AS. In 1999 the third generation of PH analysers where developed, the model PH-13.  These analysers where sold to several zinc plants. For instance Hindustan zinc bought many analysers for the three new zinc plants they build in 2004, 2006 and 2008. The experiences we got from commissioning and servicing these plants in Rajasthan in India, with ambient temperatures up to 50 degrees centigrade, were the reasons to develop a new analyser, the model PH-1300A. The analyser have been developed even further from the experience we got by commissioning  and servicing of 20 analysers in years 2010-2013 at the Boliden Odda plant and is today our main product, the PHZINC pH analyser.
