ASRM-1300

pH analyzers for the HPAL nickel extraction  process.

The “PH-1400” pH analyzer is designed for pH control of many of the processes in an HPAL nickel plant.  The neutralization and precipitation processes are difficult or impossible to control with accuracy with conventional pH analyzers. The PH-1400 analyzer is used in neutralization processes, for the control of the iron precipitation process and in the cobalt purification and precipitation processes.
Accurate pH measurements are very important in the processing of laterite and saprolite. The yield is increased and the overdosing of the neutralization or precipitation reagents is eliminated.
The problem is that other pH measuring systems have low accuracy and short lifetime of the electrodes.
The main causes of the problems are poisoning of the reference electrode and build-up of a layer of coating from the neutralization or precipitation process on the pH electrode.
Our PH-1400 analyzer has high accuracy, very long long-term accuracy and the lifetime of the electrodes are very long, many months or even years. The reference electrode is never poisoned and the pH electrode surface is kept clean by an advanced cleaning system.
Other systems require frequent calibrations, however, this only disguise the problem, the problem of low accuracy persists. A short lifetime of the electrodes or combination electrode is a symptom of low average accuracy, making process optimization impossible.

The following properties distinguish our analyzer from other known technology:
1. Most reliable, infrequent error with the analyzer or the electrodes, very low-maintenance.
2. High short-term and long-term accuracy.
3. Very long life of the electrodes, it is not possible to get high long-term accuracy without long electrode life.
4. Other systems require frequent calibration and still are not accurate. Our analyzer provides high accuracy even with weeks’ interval between calibrations.
5. It is fast and easy to calibrate the analyzer, there is no sample head which must be dismantled for calibration.
6. It is easy to install the analyzer and normally no encroachment in the process equipment is needed.

Other features:
1. Automatic cleaning of the electrodes by spraying the electrodes from below cleans the sensor surface mechanically and cleaning with chemicals prevents build-up of coating.
2. The analyzer is designed for harsh environments  with high temperatures, acid, dust and gases. The analyzer is designed to tolerate electrical noise and fluctuations in the supply voltage.

3. Easy to operate, logical menu structure, easy-to-use two point calibration procedure with calibration plausibility check.
4. The electrode system is designed in such a way that the reference electrode never can be poisoned.
5. The analyzer is designed for measuring the pH of solutions with high solid content.
6. The electrodes are in controlled pressure conditions and are protected against mechanical strains.
7. Large two-line LCD display with LED back-light.
8. Measuring range -2 to 14 pH.
9. Modbus port for data communication, 4-20 mA output and alarm output.
10. The analyzer is designed for measuring the pH of solutions with very high temperatures.

“ASRM-1300”, the online automatic sedimentation rate measuring station for the sedimentation and precipitation processes.
The ASRM-1300 measures the time required for the sample to become clear or translucent, down to a fixed (adjustable) distance beneath the surface. The instrument sucks a sample from the process to a measuring cell (cylinder), where the required time for settling is measured. The sample is then returned to the process. Then the instrument sucks up a dose of detergent, for instance an acid, from a container and sprays the detergent into the cylinder. The cylinder is then washed with water, and the cycle is repeated. The frequency of washing with detergent is programmable. The instrument gives you a unique possibility for process optimizing, because it measures the response to changes in settling properties so rapidly and automatically. A manual sample is not the same, it is not possible to replicate an automatic measurement because the manual measurement is depending of how accurate the operator is.
This is truly an early warning system for any oncoming process difficulties. The instrument is a complete-working unit for sampling, measuring and washing of the cell. It has 4-20 mA output and Modbus RTU computer interface.
The sample is usually taken from a tank, launder or pipe, before the thickener or filtration station, but after the addition of flocculant, if used.

Proven technology
Our analyzers are the result of 40 years of experience with design, construction, servicing and sale of pH analyzers to the industry.
The Norzink/Halland pH analyzers have been sold to zinc plants world-wide for 40 years. The first model was developed at the Norzink zinc plant in Odda in 1971. In the early 1980’s Norzink developed a new model, it was called “SLURpH”, this model replaced the first generation and many zinc plants bought this analyzer. This analyzer was sold to the fertilizer industry too. In 1998 the business was handed over to Halland Instruments AS. In 1999 the third generation of pH analyzers were developed, the model PH-13.  Hindustan Zinc bought many analyzers for the three new zinc plants they built in 2004, 2006 and 2008. The experiences we got from commissioning and servicing these plants in Rajasthan in India, with ambient temperatures of 50 degrees centigrade, were the reasons to develop a new analyzer, the model PH-1300. The last years the analyzers have been developed even further with our experience from the nickel and zinc industry.
